COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, VOLUNTEERING and EVENTS
In early May, FUWANA coordinated an effort to donate funds and materials for face masks benefiting front line health care workers and others in Montgomery County, MD. Over $500 was raised for over 300 face masks. Joining the women of FUWANA was the recently launched affiliate for young people, called FUWANAY, or FUWANA-Youth. The masks were professionally sewn by local Senegalese tailor Mr. Djily of Djily Creations. FUWANA further punctuated their acts of service to the community during the challenging times brought on by the Coronavirus by participating in a virtual discussion, ‘COVID-19: Keeping Children Engaged During the Lockdown’, in collaboration with Immigrant Community Services and AfriqueToday TV. For over a decade, the ladies of FUWANA have combined their resources and passion to serve communities in Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Guinea, and Sierra Leone, as well as the community of Montgomery County, MD.
